Intarsia, an Italian word that means marquetry, is the Italian word. This site expands on the meaning of intarsia. It refers to the process of creating a three-dimensional effect by starting with thick pieces of wood and shaping them individually. Intarsia projects have no background area of basewood around them, which is a departure from other marquetry techniques. Instead, the project is surrounded by a piece of base wood that serves as a background for the individual pieces.

How To

How to make wood joints

This tutorial will show how to join 2 pieces of wood together. We will use the pocket hole joint, which is drilling holes in the wood to join them. If your wood is straight and flat, this method will work well. You might consider dowel joinery if your wood isn’t straight or flat. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. Start by measuring and marking the spot where the pocket hole joint will be placed. Next, drill 3/4 inch holes in each end of each piece using a handheld drilling machine or jigsaw.
  2. Sand Smooth. You can sand the edges of the wood to ensure that it doesn't split.
  3. Glue together. Apply glue to both the ends of the wood. Let the wood sit for 5 minutes, then clamp it together.
  4. Attach the Pieces together. After the glue has dried thoroughly, secure the pieces so that they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. Trim any excess wood surrounding the joint once the glue has dried completely.

You should leave enough space between the pieces to allow you to turn them inside-out.
