For this lesson, children can look at the iris and ocellus in a mirror to see how they appear and feel. They can draw their eyes themselves using observational drawing and the mirror. They can look for white or different shades of one colour in the iris and the black in the centre. After they have finished the drawing, they can add colour using different media and try to create the illusion of depth. Children can then compare their drawings of the eyes to see what differences they have in colour.

FAQ

How can I tell what kind of wood I am working with?

Always read the label when purchasing wood. The label should provide information about the wood species, moisture content, and whether preservatives have been used.

This is a job that I can make a living from.

Yes! Many woodworkers do. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in May 2012, the median annual income for woodworkers was $34,000 This is higher than the $31,000 annual national average.

How often should I get new supplies?

You will likely need to replace some tools over time. If you're using hand tools, you'll need to sharpen them regularly. For power tools, replacement parts will be required frequently. Avoid buying too many products at once. Spread your purchases out over several months.

How long does it usually take to complete a piece furniture?

It depends on which wood you choose, how complicated your design is and what amount of finishing you apply. Hardwoods require more care than softwoods. Hardwoods are more expensive than other woods. However, they are stronger and more resistant to moisture. The average time it takes to finish furniture is one week to three weeks.

Does it take a genius to make woodworking work?

No. It is not rocket science to woodwork. You can create beautiful pieces of art by learning how to use simple power tools.

How To

How to make wood joint

This tutorial will show you how to join two pieces of wood together. We will use the "pockethole joint," which means that we drill holes in the wooden pieces and then glue them together. If your wood has a straight grain, smooth surface, you can use this method. Dowel joinery might be a better option if your wood is not straight or flat. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. To start, measure and mark where you want to put the pocket hole joint. Then drill 3/4 inch deep holes into the ends of each piece of wood using a jig saw or handheld drilling machine.
  2. Sand Smooth. The wood's edges can be sanded to prevent splitting.
  3. Glue together. Apply glue to the sides of both wood. Allow it to cool for at least 5 minutes before you attach the pieces.
  4. Fix the Pieces together. After the glue has dried thoroughly, secure the pieces so that they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. After the glue dries completely, trim off any excess wood around the joint.

You should leave enough space between the pieces to allow you to turn them inside-out.
